Woman In Progress

We live in a culture that is so focused on perfection, especially towards women. A woman is supposed to wake up looking perfect, be a perfect mother, a perfect wife, a perfect sister, a perfect employee, a perfect boss, a perfect daughter,a perfect friend, a prefect chef, a perfect housekeeper…. exhausting ….. this is the same one woman! This is unrealistic!

While society expects all of this, the reality is that nobody is perfect, and we can only strive to be better, not perfect and that is okay. Feel free to do the best you can do and be happy. Taking care of yourself physically and emotionally is the only thing that will keep you sane at the end of the day.

It is important to understand that there are moments in our life that we will be soaring, everything will be going great and you just want to stay there, it is comfortable. This is a plateau and there will be a change, a rise or a fall.

We have to accept this, and prepare ourselves for the shift and not judge the situation but adapt accordingly. I always say that women are the most flexible and resilient beings because I have seen countless women deal with impossible situations and remain standing when all is said and done. With this change comes growth, and it is this discomfort that will make us better people.

I have never been perfect, not even close to perfection in any way. I am always growing, adapting, changing , progressing. If 10 years ago someone told me that I would be the woman I am today, I would have sworn that it was impossible. I was raised in a big family, maybe huge family, with expectations of going to school, getting your degree in whatever was perfect, getting a job, getting married, having children and starting that cycle again. Now, I think I stopped somewhere in the beginning of that sequence. I took my own path, I took my risks, ruffled a lot of feathers, but I wouldn’t change it for anything.

I love that the expression “woman in progress” opens up this idea that in a world that is so rigid there is space and willingness to be with the discomfort and to be with oneself and to have one’s own experience in the journey and not feel like a failure.

I have never been more in love with myself like I am today, and I know I am a long way from realizing my full potential, but I am happy with who I have become. Everyday I am accepting myself, growing, evolving, learning and understanding the people around me. Life is a journey, and in that I am that woman in progress.

It’s not about how we see a woman on her journey, but it’s how we are in our journey that matters.

The Outfit

This outfit was based around this ruffled shirt, there’s nothing more I can say about it apart from it is a masterpiece! I am not sure if it is the ruffles or the fact that it is technically a shirt on the bottom and playful on the top that appeals to me so much. either way I am in love with ruffles as you can see here and here as well.

I paired it with this skinny pair of jeans, which fit perfectly especially around the ankles. Usually some skinny jeans are loose around the ankles and that just doesn’t go well with me.

These white plexi heels are very comfortable, dare I say one of the most comfortable pair of heels I own. I feared that the plastic would hurt my feet but they are barely noticeable when I wear them. Finally, this pale pink bag was the best fit for a light and flirty outfit.
